Federal Skilled Trades Program: Skilled Trades Pathway to Canada

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is an integral part of Canada’s Express Entry immigration system, specifically designed for skilled tradespeople looking to become permanent residents. This program acknowledges the high demand for skilled trades in the Canadian economy and provides a pathway for tradespeople from around the world to contribute their expertise. Ays Immigration is here to guide you through the FSTP application process, ensuring a smooth and successful journey to Canada.

Overview of the Federal Skilled Trades Program

The FSTP targets individuals with experience in eligible skilled trades who wish to immigrate to Canada. Unlike other programs that focus on academic achievements, the FSTP places importance on practical skills and work experience in specific trades. Eligibility is based on your ability to meet job requirements for a skilled trade as defined by the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the FSTP, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Skilled Work Experience: Have at least two years of full-time work experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time work) in a skilled trade within the five years before applying.
  • Meet Job Requirements: Demonstrate that you meet the job requirements for your skilled trade as set out in the NOC, except for needing a certificate of qualification.
  • Language Proficiency: Achieve a minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening, and CLB 4 for reading and writing.
  • Have an Offer of Employment: Have a valid job offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year or a certificate of qualification in your skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal authority.

Application Process

  • Express Entry Profile: Submit your profile to the Express Entry pool, indicating your interest in the FSTP.
  • Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS): Your profile will be ranked in the pool using the CRS.
  • Invitation to Apply (ITA): Profiles with the highest rankings receive an ITA for permanent residency.
